my first dutch wedding experience

>> Sep 9, 2009

awkward.
that pretty much sums it up.
slivka invited me to attend the wedding of one her neighbours - whom i've never met.
it was held in leeuwarden centre in the old prison (can't remember the name), on grootekerk straat
we arrived at around 3pm & were seated (all 25 of us) in the ceremony room.
the bride, groom & family walked in roughly 10minutes and were seated on 2 chairs facing the official.

here's what i found distracting:
a - a little 3year old girl who was out of control! hilarious... yet distracting
b - her older brother who kept wanting to break out in dance midst the ceremony
c - people who refused to sit! they literally followed the photography (around this small room) taking pics with their own cameras
d - it was in dutch. need i say more.

once that was over, we all went outside, so the bride & groom could take photos and release 2 doves  - it really did look good.
interesting imagery -
bridesmaid holding brides train, & smoking.
bride, screaming across the street to a relative (i hope), holding a cigarette in her hand

then came the cutting of the cake - groom cuts cake.
photos are taken.
groom then proceeds to cut slices for guests & basically throws slices on plates.
i was in awe.
the "reception" was going to be held at the bride & grooms home.
i opted out.
